Are you a Glutton?

The reason Paul was tearful here because he was speaking of those who called themselves believers of Christ. They claimed to be believers, but the truth was they served their belly (worldy appetites) instead of the true and living God. Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible says," the belly is the god of the Sensualist, the epicure, and voluptuous person. [Those who serve their belly] are lovers of pleasure, more than lovers of God."  Considering this definition and your insatiable love for your particular kind of pleasure, are you a Glutton?

Do you spend hours binging movies  or your favorite streaming service, but little to no time listening or reading the Word of God? Do you spend hours shopping online or in person, but little to no time serving others? Do you spend hours engaging or daydreaming about sex but little to no time trying to think on things that are of a good report? Do you spend hours in church but little to no time in fellowship with God outside of church? If you said yes to any of these things, you may be an idolater and a Glutton. Your true god is your belly, and overindulgence is your reasonable service unto it.

If this resonates with you, I would encourage you to confess the truth to God. Tell Him, "Lord I confess that I have been serving my belly/appetite for pleasure instead of you. I confess that I have cared more about the things of this world than the things of your Kingdom.  I acknowledge my idolatry as I've placed ______________[fill in the blank] before you. Today, I renounce my worship of my belly; and I return to worshipping you." The beautiful thing about our great God is he forgives what we confess, and you don't have to carry any condemnation behind this moment of discovery. You are free to move forward as a New Creation in Christ that lives to love God, yourself,  and others.
