Generational Blessings
Late last night, I posted on Facebook, “Every generational blessing that is attached to my bloodline will be manifested in my life in Jesus name.” Initially, I thought I was making that declaration from a natural position. I thought I was saying, “Every good thing that belongs to the Porters and Evans would belong to me.” However, the Holy Spirit enlightened me to what I was truly saying. He reminded me that according to 2 Corinthians 5:17, “I am a new creation…” I am no longer identified in heaven as an outsider, but I am considered a joint-heir of Christ (Romans 8:17). I am the byproduct of the imperishable seed (I Peter 1:22, 23 BSB), and I am now considered a child of God (Matthew 12:50, Romans 8:10-15). In light of this truth, there are some things that are rightfully mine now that I am considered righteous through Jesus Christ. The declaration I made last night was my Spirit reminding everything around me that I know who I am and what rightfully belongs to me. They are as followed:
1. Progression. Job 17:9 says, “The righteous keeps moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.” Forward is the only direction of the righteous. We are not bound by our past because we believe we have been forgiven (I John 1:9). There is no point in looking back because we know the prize is in front us. Like Paul, we must press towards the mark.
2. Protection. Psalm 34:19-21 says, “The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. 20 For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!21 Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished.” This life will not be without trouble, but as a child of God we can take rest in His promise of protection. We do not have to live in constant fear of the world around us because we know our God keeps us safe.
3. Guidance. Proverbs 4:18, 19 says, “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over.” When we choose to live God’s way it produces light in a dark world. The pursuit of what pleases God causes our way to be sure. Making decisions that please God keeps us on an illuminated path of truth and love.
4. Blessings. Proverbs 13: 20, 21 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. 21Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous.” When we delight in the Lord he gives us the desires of our hearts. It pays to live in the way that pleases our God. He gives good gifts to those who live for him. Wisdom, peace, favor, and wealth are just a few things God gives to those who honor Him with their life.
5. Attention. Proverbs 15:29 says, “The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.” When we live for Him he comes to our rescue. He inclines his ears to our request. He recognizes when one of his own is speaking to him. The Creator of the Universe inclines His ear to hear the petitions of those who love him. That’s a big deal.
6. Smooth Paths. Isaiah 26:7 says, “But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.” The journey for the righteous will be smoother than the transgressor. This is not to suggest that the journey will be shorter and problem free. It assures us that God knows the path ahead of us, and choosing to take the Righteous route can keep us from great danger.
7. Results. James 5:16 says, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” People who live righteously know the authority they possess over the enemy through Jesus Christ. They know what the word of God says rightfully belongs to them, and they will not back down until they see God’s word performed. When a righteous person prays they are putting their faith in the power of their God, and he responds to it.
Today, I pray we will choose to start living as the New Creations we are in Christ. I pray we make it our business to know what our covenant entails as New Covenant believers. I hope we will find the joy of what belongs to us as children of God to be both satisfying and encouraging. The Generational Blessings for those of us who are joint-heirs of Christ is the ability to live righteous and enjoy the benefits of what that life produces here on earth. May we all be partakers in such glorious gifts.-Charity Israel
